I've been working on a pretty small job lately (but hey, I'm grateful to be working): six windows need replacing in the high school's auditorium. The windows are about 8'-8" x 12'-0" and have one single-hung sash surrounded by fixed windows. The old wooden sashes are in poor shape, but most of the trim inside is salvageable.More to come on this project as well...

At work lately, I have been working on documenting the existing conditions as well as the necessary work required to salvage this old schoolhouse building. I love finding things like this...something as ordinary as a notebook, that has a history, a classic sense of style, is very functional, yet visually interesting...plus it has hoards of crazed fans--devotees who fetishize the stuff. Thanks to marnaw for telling me about an upcoming exhibit at the National Building Museum in Washington DC that will feature Eero Saarinen's work. Watched a great episode of Nova on PBS about the Parthenon at the Acropolis in Athens. We, of course, studied this as part of our section on Ancient Greece in the Survey of Architecture class last semester. We had our chicken stew fundraiser at school today. We are raising money to put toward our trip at the end of the semester. Today was the first day of classes. So far, so good. However, I can tell already that I'll need to find some ArchiCAD tutorials online. Seems like a fairly complex program. I am looking forward to learning it. I'm also, believe it or not, looking forward to the math and physics classes.

The second of five semesters in the Architectural Technology program begins next Wednesday, January 9.I'll be taking a CAD class (both AutoCAD and ArchiCAD), a Residential Architecture class that includes entering a statewide sustainable design competition.
